Long Weekends Are Short

I flew to Tampa, FL to visit a buddy and explore the city.  And of course, I felt like I had just landed only to have to hop back on the plane and return home.

Sigh . . .

My long weekend felt awfully short.  But alas, diva inspirations abounded - especially heels!

Holy moly!

The girls in Tampa, FL don't play when it comes to high, High, HIGH heels.  The diva sighting of the day was a girl in super-duper-nosebleed high heels leaving a movie theatre Saturday late night.

She had to walk down two steep flights of stairs.

She didn't bat an eye.

She didn't hesitate.

She didn't even pause.

She sauntered down both flights  . . .

WITHOUT EVEN USING THE HANDRAILS!!!

I was stunned and impressed.

It's nice to be home.  Diva inspirations abound in my own backyard.  But, until this diva sighting in Tampa, FL . . .

I had no idea high heels came in ALL -WHEEL DRIVE!  ;-)

Calvin Klein Can Sew

Eventually I'd be tickled to see folks wearing wearing Doodle Divas.  Like not just t-shirts.  I mean like an entire ensemble.

Handbags and shoes are imperative.  Despite Doodle Divas' love of shoes, I actually inch a little more in favor of bags.   I have like a kazillion ideas for bags.

I have hundreds of  ideas for tops; thousands of ideas for bottoms; millions of ideas for gowns and a myriad of ideas of how to put them all together with shoes, bags, accessories and yes . . . even makeup.

(I firmly believe that by age 18, any female that wears makeup should not only know how, but also always have on hand the necessary tools to give herself smoky eyes for an evening out.   Can I get an amen??!)

I digress.

Apparently, simply drawing fashion ideas isn't enough.  There's fabric to be studied.  Density, color, durability, lack thereof . . . And most importantly . . . SEWING!!??

I thought you could just come up with an idea and have someone make it.  Turns out that only works if you're an uber star like Jennifer Lopez.

Otherwise, brotha gotta learn to sew.

Sigh.

Thankfully, a very dear friend has armed me with the tools necessary to begin this journey.

It's a sewing machine!

This aint nothing like the thing my Mom used to have.

It looks pretty sophisticated.

And it has all these stitch patterns it can do which is apparently a very big deal.

Apparently this is a foot pedal that can make things go faster.

I have no idea what this is supposed to be??!  ;-)

Any ole hoo, she's allowing me to borrow her super cool sewing machine.  She upgraded to some mega-monster machine that stitch a wardrobe for an entire village.

I'm to have a  skirt done by the New Year.

Wish me luck!

Shoes

A recurring theme with Doodle Divas is their love of SHOES! I wanted to take it to a high comedy level. Remember, they’re cartoons. They can do ANYTHING.

An idea around the notion of their love of shoes popped in my head. It made me giggle thinking about it. Once done, it made everyone else giggle too.

Mission accomplished! ;-)

Diva Sightings

Asheville is a fashion show.  I guess I'm so used to the abundance of creativity.  I forget sometimes.

I think Asheville has this reputation for being 'the mountains.'  Which it is. But the visual is very hiking, camping, REI.

And there is so much Much MUCH more to Asheville than hiking, camping,  and related.

When I think of Asheville, I think of the downtown scene with its artists, theaters, dance clubs, bars, restaurants, night life, tourists, eye candy and individuality.    And what better way to express it than with your own diva style.

Take these shoes:

This fetching little kitten was serving me up some caffeine in the form of an iced mocha when I happened to look down and see these beauties.

Are they not adorable?!  I know the whole gladiator look in heels is still going strong.  Funny how folks act like it was only popular for the past few years.

I remember Thierry Mugler  had all the supermodels sashaying down runways and George Michael videos in those fierce little numbers back in the 90s.  I think they were so far ahead of their time that it was more like haute couture for art versus reality.

On this little lady, they're paired down to almost a sandal.  But they're actually part kitten heels, part sandal and part dress shoe.

Regardless, they're 100% cute.  Very individual.  Very Asheville.

Very diva!  :-)
